The deal fields reps never fill in, and what they cost your forecast

YourApp · journal

Ask any sales leader where their forecast goes wrong and you will hear the same answer: the CRM does not match reality. Reps run great calls, agree on clear next steps, and then never write them down. By the forecast review, half the open deals have no next step and a close date someone guessed at a month ago.

We looked across thousands of open opportunities and the pattern was consistent. Next step and close date were the most frequently missing fields, followed by competitor and pain point. These are exactly the fields that decide whether a deal is real, and exactly the ones reps skip when they are racing to the next call.

The fix is not another reminder or a stricter manager. It is removing the data entry entirely. When the next step, close date, and stage come straight off the call transcript and land on the opportunity automatically, the forecast stops being a guess. Start there: automate the three fields that move your pipeline, and let the rest follow.
